How does my skin become irritated?

Skin becomes irritated when it is exposed to allergens, harsh chemicals or when skin experiences a medical condition like eczema or psoriasis.

How do I know my skin is irritated?

Irritated skin usually feels dry, itchy, and has rough patches. When you scratch the skin, it will form a bumpy layer and might even bleed if the scratching continues. Sometimes the skin will only feel itchy without the other signs mentioned above since these conditions vary from one person to another.

What do I do to prevent this from happening?

1- Check what kind of new products or materials you were exposed to and stop using it. Skin allergens can be anything from a new skincare product, new perfume/mist to cleaning detergents, hand soaps and shampoos since irritation can also affect the scalp.
2-Give your skin a break. When your skin is irritated that means it has a damaged skin barrier and in order to help it recover, you will need to boost your skin with the ingredients it needs to rebuild that barrier. Think about pausing any use of active ingredients in your skincare routine like vitamin C, chemical exfoliators (AHA’s, BHA’s, PHA’s), retinoids, and focus on using a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen during the day for at least 3 days and up to a week.
Look for moisturizers rich with ceramides, fatty acids, panthenol, centella, squalane and aloe vera.
*If symptoms continue for more than a week, seek medical care to avoid worsening the condition.
